Automotive Mechanical Engineer

Potential Motors is an electric vehicle technology startup focused on electric off-road vehicles. Our technology will accelerate the off-road transition to electric vehicles by enabling manufacturers to develop more modular, performant, and resilient EV products. We are preparing for the global launch of a category defining product in 2022 and looking for ambitious people to join our team in creating a new product category and electrifying an industry.

Here’s the problem we are facing:

Building a vehicle, even a prototype, is difficult. It requires a wide range of knowledge, an understanding of physical limitations, a drive to execute on a design, and a meticulousness to assure it functions as desired. Factoring in off road conditions, and using cutting edge software; suddenly this becomes a much more involved task.

We are looking for someone to aid in all aspects of the engineering development process to produce as capable a vehicle as possible. This role will serve as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team to support automotive body and system development for our prototype.

Here’s where you’ll come in:

  • Mechanical Design Engineering

    • Support vehicle engineers, mechatronic engineering technicians and prototype fabricators in defining prototype manufacturing strategies and key design criteria that outputs highly effective and manufacturable parts that solve complex mechanical challenges.

  • Concept Development

    • Brainstorm and collaborate with engineers, designers, and users in creating new solutions for automotive applications.

    • Develop the designs using CAD and FEA and build your designs to prove them out and refine them over time.

  • Prototyping

    • Design and manufacture prototypes from the ground up on tight time frames with a talented group of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.

    • Achieve innovation-driven targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight.

    • Support manufacturing processes and material selections to achieve world class execution of automotive exterior craftsmanship and fit and finish.

    • Optimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments.

Who we are looking for:

  • BS in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automotive Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience showcasing excellence

  • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics and vehicle systems.

  • Passion for cutting edge product design and innovation.

  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience working in automotive related field

  • Proficiency in 3D modelling and simulation utilizing NX, and CATIA V5/V6, Solidworks, or similar CAD software.

  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles of various commodities.

  • Hands on experience working on electric vehicles

  • Hands on experience in designing and building electro-mechanical systems
